A nautical chart four metres wide, filled with boats the audience folded.

MarineTraffic’s chart, printed at four metres by two and hung on the floor. TEDxSters folded paper boats, wrote a wish on them, and pinned them to it. The finished canvas went back to the company’s offices.

The map they already own.

The canvas reproduced the nautical chart from the MarineTraffic app at 4×2 metres — immediately recognisable to anyone who had used the product, and legible as a map to everyone who had not.

Paper came in several sizes and in colours taken from the app’s own palette, so that a wall covered in boats would read the way the app reads on a busy afternoon.

One line each.

Each attendee folded a boat, wrote their name and a wish tied to their own unleash on it, and pinned it to the chart. Greek and English, in the same water.

Entry to the draw ran through two tablets on the stand, the same registration route the partner had used the year before. The prize was a one-day cruise for two in the Argosaronic Gulf.

What each side brought

TEDxAthens designed and printed the canvas, sourced and cut the paper, and built and ran the space. MarineTraffic supplied the chart artwork at print resolution, the tablets, the staff on the stand and the prize — and took the finished canvas home to hang.
